Motorhome Holidays in Southern Africa, Namibia and Botswana

Motorhome Holidays in Southern Africa

Cape Town - Port Elizabeth
This route starts in Capetown. Bustling and beautiful, the cosmopolitan nature of Capetown doesn't give you time to get sick of the multitude of experiences it has to offer. From pristine coastlines and a magnificent countryside offering unique flora, to the many shopping malls, restaurants, jazz cafes, flea markets, theatres and glitzy casinos and nightclubs, Capetown appeals to the nature-lover and the nightcrawler alike. From Cape Town it is worth heading straight to the Cape of Good Hope. After taking in the spectacular view of Table Mountain you should head east. The famous 'Garden Route' leads through Mossels Bay through to Knysna alongside remote coves, steep cliffs and stunning white sandy bays. The trip then takes us towards Port Elizabeth. A visit to the Addo Elephant National Park is also highly recommended.

Durban - Johannesburg - Kruger National Park
Durban is where the proud Zulu nation meets East and West. There is a wealth of influences to entertain and enthrall with traditional warrior dancers, mystic fire-walkers and colonial heritage. Sample the unique vibrancy of township life, the finest curries outside India and a calendar filled with thrilling, spectacular events. After enjoying Durban you can head northwest towards Drakensberg. Continuing on towards Johannesburg the Royal Natal National Park which is on the border to Lesotho is definitely worth a visit. From Johannesburg you can drive on via Pretoria to the very colourful houses in Middelburg. After that, a visit to the Ndebele township in Botshabelo is a great experience. Moving on, Pelgrimsrus - a well-known gold-mining town - is an interesting stop. Drive on along the Blyde River Canyon through the Strydom Tunnel and get in amongst the subtropical Laeveld. From there you can head on to the fascinating Kruger National Park which - since the expansion of the nature reserve to take in Zimbabwe and Mozambique - is now the largest and most animal populated national park in Africa.

Namibia:

Windhoek - Swakopmund - Etosha National Park
We depart the capital city of Windhoek heading west and after crossing the northern section of the Namib-Naukluft Park we arrive in Swakopmund. This city's famous half-timbered and Art Nouveau architecture is a stark reminder of its German colonial past. The next stage of the trip takes us towards Khorixas, via the interesting rock carvings and a fossilised forest. The road via Outjo leads us on to the Etosha National Park, one of the oldest nature reserves in Africa. The park boasts an array of spectacular wild animals such as elephants, Rhinocerus, lions as well as an infinite number of antilope and zebra.

Windhoek - Sossusvlei - Luderitz
The highlight of this tour are the second highest sand dunes in the world. You head from Windhoek through the Khomas highlands to the Gamsberg Pass. The route then takes you along the Namib Naukluft Park. Camp Sesriem is the starting point for the journey to the giant Sossusvlei - Namibia's sand dune desert region. As you head on towards Luderitz, a city founded in German colonial times, you will pass through the interesting towns of Helmeringhausen and the interesting mission town of Bethany.

Botswana:

Maun - Okavango - Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)
This route begins in Maun in Botswana and takes you to Okavango. This town is the starting point for safari holidays in the nature reserves and to the Okavango Delta. The latter is home to the Moremi animal sanctuary which in turn is home to one of the largest 'collections' of animals you will find in any sanctuary. Northwest of the Okavango Delta is the Chobe National Park which is famous for its plethora of elephant herds as well as being a quite exceptional wilderness region in general. After exploring this area you take the road to Kasani.

In the northeast you drive over the border to Zimbabwe, where one of the most spectacular wonders of the world awaits: the Victoria Falls. The falls force the imposing Zambesi river to plunge over 100 metres into the depths and at a width of 1,700 metres.
