Motorhome Holidays in Australia

Here are a few driving route suggestions to help you when you're planning your Australian holiday.

The East Coast: Sydney - Cairns - Port Douglas

This trip begins in Sydney, where we initially head towards the Hunter Valley wine region. From there we head to Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour via Port Stephens. The coastal road takes us through a number of fruit plantations in the Noosa Heads area via Nambucca Heads towards Byron Bay.

The highway takes us along the famous Gold Coast to Surfers Paradise and on to Brisbane. From there we drive on to Hervey Bay, which is the starting point for us on our way to Fraser Island. There are lots of ways to explore this island. A number of companies offer various organised trips or you can drive around in a 4WD and explore the place by yourself.

Back on the mainland again our route takes us via Rockhampton to Mackay, along the coast to Shute Harbour/Airlie Beach. This stunning beach area is also the starting point for the trip to the Whitsunday Islands. A day cruise around these islands is a must! From Airlie Beach we head through Townsville to Mission Beach and you can take a water taxi from there to Dunk Island.

On to Cairns, which is the starting point for the trip to Great Barrier Island - most famous as a paradise for diving and snorkeling. You can also take a trip to Kuranda and to the Atherton Tablelands.

If you want to head further north to the beach area of Port Douglas you can enjoy a trip to the Daintree Rainforest and to the Mossman Gorge. Then its back to Cairns to drop off the motorhome.

Heading inland we then drive via Halls Gap to the 'Grampians' - a National Park with incredible sandstone formations that are over 400mio years old. Then back towards the coast to Mt Gambier, a town that is located at the foot of an exctinct volcano.

From here we drive approx. 400km to the beautiful winery region - 'The Barossa Valley' which means that we also get to cross the imposing Murray river.
