All drivers must have held their driving license for a minimum of 1 year at the time they pick up the motorhome. For groups Family Luxury and Premium Models a minimum of 3 years applies. UK and European Licenses (Category B according to the European Union system) as well as Australian, New Zealand, American and Canadian licenses are valid for use in all European Union countries as well as Norway and Switzerland. In addition, an international driving license is required if the information on the national license is not provided in English or German and is recommended if you plan to drive to any other countries. We suggest you get in contact with the respective authority for that country before travelling.
UK/EU Category B licences as well as most standard licenses of most countries are valid for driving the following vehicles only (vehicle weight below 3,500 kg / 3.5 t incl. contents and passengers).
- VW California Campervan
- Compact: Standard, Plus, Luxury models
- Family: Standard, Plus, Luxury models
- Comfort: Standard, Plus models
NOTE:
Please note that the following vehicles each weigh more than 3,500kg (3.5t) in total and therefore a driving license with a higher vehicle weight limit is required in Germany to drive these vehicles (European Union Licensing Category C licenses as displayed on the 'EU system' photocard licenses). Without this endorsement you will not be able to rent one of these vehicles.
- Premium: Standard, Plus and Luxury models
For UK travellers: If you passed your driving test prior to 01/01/1997 (when new standardised European Union driving license categories were introduced) and still have those driving permissions entered in your driving license you will be allowed to drive up to a total weight of approx. 7,500kg. This information is provided after discussion with the DVLA but please note that we cannot be held responsible for the accuracy of their statements.
Some standard Australian driving licenses allow you to drive vehicles up to 4.5 tonnes so please have a close look at your national license to make sure your license works within the parameters of your preferred vehicle.
If in doubt, if you have a non-UK/EU licence or you have an EU category B license and are unsure about anything regarding total weights please just give us a call or send us an email to check which specifications are present in the vehicle you wish to book.
The minimum age for all registered drivers is:
21 years for:
- VW California Campervan
- Compact: Standard, Plus and Luxury models
- Family: Standard and Plus models
- Comfort: Standard and Plus models
25 years for:
- Familiy: Luxury models
- Premium: Standard, Plus and Luxury models
There are no additional costs for registering additional drivers.
Anyone wishing to drive the motorhome must have their details entered in the rental agreement.
The renter is required to provide the names and addresses of any drivers (even if they only drive the vehicle briefly) to the rental company. The renter is responsible and liable for the actions of any of the other registered drivers.
Before you can receive your vehicle you are required to present a valid driving license, credit card (compulsory), your passport as well as the Motorhome Bookers voucher at the depot.

The number of seats or beds can vary within any given category.
Please note the information above regarding the driving licence categories and weight restrictions which apply to each vehicle category.
A minimum hire of 7 days applies.
This increases to 14 days for pick-ups during the Peak Season.
