Public Liability Insurance: The public liability insurance is included in the daily rental rate. Apollo is insured for damages to third parties and/or their property. The public liability insurance that covers the registered drivers is only up to the statutory limit as stipulated by law of the State you are in at the time. This insurance amount is normally very low. In order to increase the upper limit of your own third party insurance you should purchase the Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) option locally. Please refer to the section 'Additional Insurance Options' below for more information.
Vehicle insurance The renter is responsible up to the amount of $1,500 for the cost of damage to the rented Vehicle. The renter is also responsible for the cost of demurrage for the period the Vehicle is unavailable due to repairs. The Liability is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time the accident is reported to Apollo, not at the completion of the rental Period. In addition to the Liability an administration fee of $75 will be charged per claim.
Exceptions: For a list of uninsured incidents please refer to 'Insurance Exclusions' below.
Additional Insurance Options - Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) You have the option of purchasing the Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) locally for US$ 9 per day plus local taxes. The SLI insurance increases the public liability insurance cover for the registered drivers from the low statutory limit that applies in the USA up to a maximum of US$ 1million.
The maximum SLI insurance covers claims made by third parties against the rental company or the renter of the motorhome (for damage to third parties or their property). Passengers in the rented motorhome are not counted as third parties and the driver is therefore not insured for claims brought by them against him/herself.
- Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) You can reduce or eliminate the excess as follows. - You can book the All Inclusive Option with us in advance, which includes the Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) with NIL excess - You can select the CDW with Apollo locally. This option can be purchased by paying $15 per night, with a maximum of US$ 600 per rental and reduces the excess to NIL.
The respective excess is payable for any damage to the rental vehicle including damage to tyres or the windscreen, to third party property, in the event of theft, fire, break-ins, vandalism as well as loss of revenue incurred by Apollo if the vehicle is unable to be rented out due to necessary repairs.
NB: If you book the All Inclusive option or purchase the CDW locally, 1 windscreen and 2 tyre repairs are included, but any further costs beyond that are not covered and are payable by the renter.
There is no insurance cover whatsover if the vehicle is wilfully damaged, damaged due to negligence on the part of the rental party or due to illegal activities or forbidden activities as per the rental agreement. Please refer to the section 'Insurance Exclusions' below for further details.
With the standard insurance, the deposit (which covers the amount of the excess - depending on which insurance option you opt for) of US$ 1,500 will be collected at the time of entering into the Rental Contract. The US$ 1,500 will be debited to the credit card account immediately. An administration fee of US$ 30 applies.
If you have either booked the All Inclusive option through Motorhome Bookers or purchased the Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) locally, a deposit of US$ 500 will be collected at the time of entering into the Rental Contract. The US$ 500 will be debited to the credit card account immediately. An administration fee of US$ 10 applies.
For security purposes, only a credit card can be used to provide the deposit. Visa, Mastercard. American Express and Diners Club are accepted. Travellers cheques or cash will not be accepted. The credit card holder must be present and able to sign for the deposit upon vehicle collection. The credit card holder is jointly and severally liable for any damage to the rental vehicle.
NOTE: Please ensure that you have sufficient funds on your credit card before departure.
If the vehicle is returned without damage or third party incident the full amount of the deposit will be reimbursed. Any changes in foreign exchange rates or fees are borne by the renter. All credit card deductions are made in US Dollars. Neither the rental company nor the tour operator is responsible for any differences that occur between the cost of a deducted deposit and the reimbursement and which result from foreign exchange fluctuations or external fees.
The deposit is fully refundable when the vehicle is returned to the correct location on time, is full of fuel and all other terms of the Rental Contract have been complied with. If there is damage to the vehicle on its return, the deposit will be used to cover the cost of such damage up to the amount of the relevant Liability. The rental company reserves the right to charge a cleaning fee if the interior of the vehicle is excessively dirty at drop-off. The toilet and waste water tank must be completely empty, otherwise a further fee will be charged. Please refer to the section 'Miscellaneous' / 'Post-hire Cleaning' for further details. If the terms of the Rental Contract are breached and the deposit is insufficient to cover the damage then any extra cost will be charged.
If an accident occurs, the excess (in the form of the deposit provided at pick-up time) is banked in the first instance regardless of who is at fault and is owed to the rental company by the renter even if the damage was not caused by you and is refunded as soon as the rental company receives a payment from a third party. This can of course take some time.
Apollo also charges a processing fee of US$ 75 for any incident.
In the USA, third party liability insurance is not compulsory. If you have an accident with an uninsured driver or the other person flees the scene of the accident, you will be liable for the sum of the excess. The excess applicable for the insurance options mentioned above applies to each individual incident and not on a per-rental basis. If a second accident occurs, a further deposit of the same total will be payable.
All insurance cover is null and void if the terms of the Apollo USA rental agreement are breached. Any damage that is caused when the renter acts outside of the rental company conditions is not covered by the insurance.
Any water and/or saltwater related damage where the renter is at fault is not covered by the insurance. The insurance does not cover damage in the case of any vehicle submersion, the vehicle being stranded in a water area, driving through causeways or beach driving.
There is no insurance cover if you drive into Mexico, Alaska, Yukon, the Nortwest Territories or Newfoundland. Due to restrictions on vehicle heights, propane gas and parking, vehicles with propane are not permitted in Manhattan and are not permitted to travel through any underground or underwater tunnels.
Any personal property that is damaged or stolen during an accident, vandalism or a theft is not insured. Private insurance should be purchased in your home country to cover any such issues. In order to avoid theft of personal items from the vehicle, it is advised not to leave any valuables in the vehicle.
In the cases listed below, the renter is fully liable for damage to the rental vehicle and third-party property, i.e. no insurance cover whatsoever is provided. - Damage caused to the Vehicle in any way by part or total water submersion or salt water - Damage resulting from activities that are in breach of the rental agreement terms, e.g. driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol or dangerous driving - Damage to the awning, slide out, overhead or underbody of the Vehicle - Damage caused by negligence - Damage caused due to a single vehicle roll over - Damage caused to the Vehicle by the renter’s wilful conduct - Damage caused to the Vehicle when using the Vehicle in contravention of any legislation or regulation controlling vehicular traffic - Damage or loss caused to any personal belongings - Damage caused due to use of incorrect or contaminated fuel or when water or oil, or any other liquids are not topped up to minimum required levels or where warning signals in the vehicle are ignored - Repairs and towing costs that are incurred because of driving in restricted areas - Costs incurred if vehicle keys are either lost or locked in the vehicle - If damage is caused as a result of people using the vehicle without the permission (not registered in rental agreement) of the rental company - If more passengers are in the car than the maximum number allowed
The following incidents are payable by the renter separate to the insurance, unless you purchase the appropriate additional insurance option or All Inclusive option: - Glass damage including windscreen and headlights - Damage to tyres or wheels
A surcharge, which is payable by credit card of US$ 700 is required if you travel to the Burning Man Festival.
All credit card payments that you make locally at the rental company depot are made in US Dollars.
A charge of 10% of the total cost will be levied to cover administration fees, government fees, duties and other associated costs for all transactions made locally.
An administration fee of US$ 30 applies when the deposit for standard insurance is charged to your credit card at pick-up. If you have booked the All Inclusice option or purchase the appropriate additional insurance option locally, this charge will be US$ 10.
Neither the rental company nor the tour operator is liable to pay any cost differences that occur between the cost of the deducted deposit and the reimbursement as a result of foreign exchange fluctuations or external fees.
Where speeding tickets and toll way or parking fines and/or accidents (e.g. that have not been mentioned to the rental company) come to light the rental company reserves the right to invoice the customer for these costs in arrears as well as a processing fee of US$ 75 or charge their credit card.
The insurance options offered by the rental company do not include luggage insurance, nor do they included cover for any damage to the driver or passengers. It is therefore recommended that you obtain travel insurance that covers accidents, sickness and loss of luggage prior to departure.
