Public Liability Insurance:
The public liability insurance is included in the daily rental rate. JUCY is insured for damages to third parties and/or their property. The public liability insurance that covers the registered drivers is only up to the statutory limit as stipulated by law of the State you are in at the time. This insurance amount is normally very low.
In order to increase the upper limit of your own third party insurance you should purchase the Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) option locally. Please refer to the section 'Additional Insurance Options' below for more information.
Vehicle insurance
A vehicle insurance is also included in the rental rate for all vehicles. This insurance reduces the renter's personal level of risk/excess to CA$ 1,500 (per incident) if the rental vehicle is damaged, in the event of theft or vandalism, regardless of how or by whom any damage to the vehicle occurs - including if the renter is not at fault.
Exceptions:
For a list of uninsured incidents please refer to 'Insurance Exclusions' below.Additional Insurance Options
- Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI)
You have the option of purchasing the Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) locally for CA$ 13 per night plus local taxes. The SLI insurance increases the public liability insurance cover for the registered drivers from the low statutory limit that applies in CANADA up to a maximum of CA$ 1 million.
The maximum SLI insurance covers claims made by third parties against the rental company or the renter of the motorhome (for damage to third parties or their property). Passengers in the rented motorhome are not counted as third parties and the driver is therefore not insured for claims brought by them against him/herself.
- Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
This option can be purchased in advance (but is payable locally) and costs CA$ 10 per day. It reduces the excess to NIL.
The respective excess is payable for any damage to the rental vehicle including damage to tyres or the windscreen, to third party property, in the event of theft, fire, break-ins, vandalism as well as loss of revenue incurred by JUCY if the vehicle is unable to be rented out due to necessary repairs.
Damages to the awnings, overhead and underbody are not covered by the CDW and the renter is fully liable. Please refer to 'Insurance Exclusions' below.
The deposit (which covers the amount of the excess - depending on which insurance option you opt for) will be collected when you pick up the rental vehicle. The credit card holder must be present and able to sign for the deposit upon vehicle collection. The credit card holder is jointly and severally liable for any damage to the rental vehicle. The deposit can also only be provided by the renter and not split several ways between members of the travelling party.
With the standard insurance, the deposit of CA$ 1,500 will be pre-authorised at the time of collection of the vehicle. If you purchase the Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) locally, a deposit of only CA$ 500 will be pre-authorised.
For security purposes, only a credit card (Visa, Mastercard and American Express) can be used to provide the deposit. Other credit cards, travellers cheques or cash will not be accepted.
NOTE:
Please ensure that you have sufficient funds on your credit card before departure.
If the vehicle is returned without damage or third party incident the full amount of the deposit will be reimbursed. Any changes in foreign exchange rates or fees are borne by the renter. All credit card deductions are made in CAD Dollars. Neither the rental company nor the tour operator is responsible for any differences that occur between the cost of a deducted deposit and the reimbursement and which result from foreign exchange fluctuations or external fees.
The deposit is fully refundable when the vehicle is returned to the correct location on time, is full of fuel and all other terms of the Rental Contract have been complied with. If there is damage to the vehicle on ist return, the deposit will be used to cover the cost of such damage up to the amount of the relevant liability.
The rental company reserves the right to charge a cleaning fee if the interior of the vehicle is excessively dirty at drop-off. Please refer to the section 'Miscellaneous' / 'Post-hire Cleaning' for further details.
If the terms of the Rental Contract are breached and the deposit is insufficient to cover the damage then any extra cost will be charged.
All insurance cover is null and void if the terms of the JUCY Rentals Campervan Hire rental agreement are breached. Any damage that is caused when the renter acts outside of the rental company conditions is not covered by the insurance.
Any damage caused by the vehicle rolling over (single vehicle accident) or water and/or saltwater related damage where the renter is at fault is not covered by the insurance. The insurance does not cover damage in case of vehicle submersion, the vehicle being stranded in water, or resulting from driving on causeways or beach driving.
A vehicle rollover is deemed to have occurred where damage to the vehicle results from the vehicle rolling or tipping to such a degree that any or all tyres lose normal contact with the road surface.
Any personal property that is damaged or stolen during an accident, vandalism or a theft is not insured. Private insurance should be purchased in your home country to cover any such issues. In order to avoid theft of personal items from the vehicle, it is advised not to leave any valuables in the vehicle.
In the cases listed below, the renter is fully liable for damage to the rental vehicle and third-party property, i.e. no insurance cover whatsoever is provided.
- Damage due to vehicle submersion or the vehicle being stranded in a water area
- Saltwater-related damage
- Damage caused to the vehicle when using the vehicle in contravention of any legislation or regulation controlling vehicular traffic
- Damage resulting from activities that are in breach of the rental agreement terms, e.g. driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol or dangerous driving
- Damage caused due to use of incorrect or contaminated fuel or when water or oil, or any other liquids are not topped up to minimum required levels or where warning signals in the vehicle are ignored
- Damage to the awning, overhead or underbody of the vehicle
- Damage caused by snow chains attached in the wrong way
- Damage caused due to a single vehicle roll over
- Repairs and towing costs that are incurred because of driving in restricted areas
- Damage caused to the vehicle by the renter’s wilful conduct
- Damage caused by negligence
- If damage is caused as a result of people using the vehicle without the permission (not registered in rental agreement) of the rental company
All credit card payments that you make locally at the rental company depot are made in CAD Dollars.
A charge of 12% of the total cost will be levied to cover administration fees, government fees, duties and other associated costs for all transactions made locally.
Please note, local payments can be made by credit card only (Visa, Mastercard and American Express), traveller cheques or cash will not be accepted.
Neither the rental company nor the tour operator is liable to pay any cost differences that occur between the cost of the deducted deposit and the reimbursement as a result of foreign exchange fluctuations or external fees.
Where speeding tickets and toll way or parking fines and/or accidents (e.g. that have not been reported to the rental company) come to light the rental company reserves the right to invoice the customer for these costs in arrears as well as a processing fee or charge their credit card.
The insurance options offered by the rental company do not include luggage insurance, nor do they include cover for any damage to the driver or passengers. It is therefore recommended that you obtain travel insurance that covers accidents, sickness and loss of luggage prior departure.
The following optional extras are not included in the standard flex rates and can be rented at the depot at pick-up time (pending availability). It is recommended that you reserve these items in advance with your booking:
- Camping chairs: CA$ 10 per chair
- Camping table: CA$ 25 per rental
- GPS: CAS$ 10 per day (max. CA$ 100 per rental; max. charge of 10 days)

In the United States of America and Canada, the following regulations apply:
Children under the age of 1 year or weighing less than 20 pounds (approx. 9 kg) must be seated in a rear-facing baby capsule.
In the state of California children up to the age of 2 years must be seated in a rear-facing baby capsule in the living area.
Children from the age of 1 year (or from the age of 2 years in California) up to the age of 4 years or weighing less than 40 pounds (approx. 18 kg) are required to be seated and belted in a baby seat.
Children between the age of 4 and 8 years or weighing less than 60 pounds (approx. 27 kg) or who are less than 57 inches (approx. 145 cm) in height must use a child restraint (Booster Seat), which is attached with a seatbelt.
These regulations vary from state to state in the US. For details on the requirements of the states you will be traveling in, please refer to
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety
Child restraints are available for hire from JUCY and cost CA$ 40 per seat and rental. If you require a baby seat, please let us know the child's age and weight when you book. The seats fit from age 6 months to 4 years and need to be booked in advance.
Travel on unpaved roads, 4WD tracks, beaches, forest or logging roads or other private roads as well as driving through water is prohibited.
It is not permitted to drive to Death Valley or other desert areas between 15 Jul and 15 September. At other times clients visit these areas at their own risk and are thus responsible for all recovery and other charges.
Underground and underwater tunnels are prohibited, as is underground parking.
Driving to Mexico, Alaska, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Newfoundland is strictly prohibited.
The rental company reserves the right to restrict travel on certain roads based on current weather or road conditions.
JUCY requires prior notification if you want to attend the Burning Man Festival and a CA$ 700 non-refundable surcharge is payable locally. The renter is required to thoroughly clean the vehicle and remove all desert dust before returning. Additional cleaning fees may be applied upon return of the vehicle if excessive desert dust remains.
One-way rentals (= vehicle collection at depot 'A' and return at depot 'B') are allowed between Canada and all depots in the United States if booked in advance. Please see the section 'Additional Costs' above for one-way fees.
Please note that the renter is liable for any damage to the vehicle resulting from frost, exposure to the cold, freezing of the tanks, warm water tanks and connections and damage such as this is not covered by the insurance.
Every rental vehicle has to be 'winterised' between the months of November and April (this period can vary depending on current weather conditions).
If it is likely that you will experience temperature levels below zero, the water tank should be emptied. If frost temperatures are expected the rental depot will have already winterised the vehicle by emptying the water to avoid freezing, etc. prior to your pick-up date. Winterised, by definition means that the water has to be emptied out of all water tanks. Following this it is not permitted to pour any more water into the fresh water tank and none of the water connections can be used any more. No water in the vehicle is available for use.
The renter is then required to purchase his/her own bottled water (e.g. drinking water) and to cover these costs him/herself.
The renter bears all responsibility for ensuring the vehicle remains winterised and for returning the vehicle in this state if the vehicle was collected in a warmer region such that the vehicle was not winterised or if this state is altered during the rental period. If the renter does not adhere to these guidelines - regardless of what weather conditions are present at drop-off time, a fee will be charged and the bond will be withheld until the vehicle is again winterised by a specialist and returned to the rental company.
The renter will be held responsible for any costs resulting from the vehicle being damaged such as when the tanks, engine elements and pipes are damaged due to freezing, frost, etc. In such cases there is no insurance cover.
Please allow for the fact - when planning out your route, that camping grounds in certain areas may close during the winter. Some roads, especially in alpine areas may also be closed for driving or may be simply too dangerous to drive on.
All depots are open Monday to Friday from 0900hrs to 1630hrs and Saturdays from 0900hrs to 1200hrs.The depots are closed on Sundays and public holidays.

NOTE:
If your return flight is at midday or earlier we recommend that you drop off your motorhome at the depot on the day before your flight and spend the night in a hotel (or similar).
If the vehicle is returned earlier than agreed no refund will be provided. If it is not returned at the agreed time, the rental company will charge a fee for each hour that the vehicle is overdue. You can only extend the hire with prior approval from the rental company at the standard rates. This rate is normally higher than the Motorhome Bookers rates and is payable immediately locally by credit card (via the phone or at an JUCY rental depot), not at drop-off time.
If it is returned later than the agreed drop-off date without JUCY being made aware of the extension the renter will be charged at a higher rate for those days (if the depot is not the agreed drop-off location further transportation fees will be charged). You can also only change the drop-off depot with prior approval from the rental company. Otherwise, one-way fees as well as additional surcharges of at least CA$ 750 will apply.
If the vehicle is returned in a damaged or not in a clean state, or if the petrol or diesel tank is not full JUCY will charge fees accordingly as well as processing fees. Please refer to the section 'Miscellaneous' / 'Post-hire Cleaning'.

The rental company will make every effort to ensure that the booked vehicle model is provided. However, it reserves the right, if due to unforeseen circumstances it has to provide either a vehicle of the same or a higher value without upgrade costs if the model booked is not availble for any reason. Any additional costs such as higher petrol costs or ferry crossings costs, etc will not be refunded. This does not enable the renter to cancel his/her booking and there is no ground for reimbursement. Even though all vehicles have similar equipment and designs small differences in vehicle design may exist. All measurements and size indications are approximate values and are based on the information provided to us by the rental company. We can not accept responsibility for any mistakes or human error in the provision of these details. This information on our website can be changed at any time without prior notice.
The rental company reserves the right to charge a fee of up to CA$ 500 if the interior of any returned vehicle is extremely dirty. Smoking is not permitted or a cleaning & deodorising process will be necessary at a fee of up to CA$ 500.
Despite high levels of quality control, vehicle problems can arise from time to time.
In the event of an accident, breakdown, technical difficulties or other such problems you are required to inform the rental company immediately and within no more than 24 hours (including for flat tyres). A nationwide network of contracted mechanics are available in such cases. In addition, JUCY has a free emergency phone service which is available 24 hours a day, every day of the week.
Small repairs or expenses for the upkeep of the vehicle up to CA$ 75 can be carried out without prior communication with the rental company and will be reimbursed to you at vehicle drop-off time. For repairs that will cost more than CA$ 75 you are required to inform the rental company before repairs take place in order to obtain their approval to proceed. Expenses will only be reimbursed upon presentation of a receipt.
Note: If you do not inform JUCY immediately about the need for a repair and if JUCY is not given the opportunity to help you find you a solution no reimbursement will be provided.
Underground and underwater tunnels, underground parking and drive-thrus are prohibited.
Driving to Mexico and Newfoundland is strictly prohibited.
You can only drive to Alaska, Yukon, Newfoundland or Northwest Territories by paying a fee of US$ 500 at pick-up.
Please inform Jucy in advance and wait for reconfirming.
The depot is open Monday to Friday from 0900hrs to 1630hrs and Saturdays from 0900hrs to 1200hrs.The depot is closed on Sundays and public holidays.
Public holidays:
2019: 27 May, 04 Jul, 02 Sep
You can only drop off your rental vehicle at the booked depot between 0900hrs and 1100hrs. If you have booked the Late Return option, you can drop off your vehicle until 1500hrs between Monday and Friday and until 1100hrs on Saturdays.

Any additional costs such as higher petrol costs or ferry crossings costs, etc will not be refunded. This does not enable the renter to cancel his/her booking and there is no ground for reimbursement.
If the renter seeks compensation for any vehicle problems after the vehicle has been returned without having informed the rental company during the rental period none will be provided.
