For rentals of 21 days or more, a 5% discount applies off the daily rental rates.
Please note: The All Inclusive Option is not discounted and the discount can be adjusted at any time.
Should a customer have more than one consecutive rental they can be combined to qualify for longer-term hire discounts off the vehicle rate. Consecutive motorhome hire in Australia and New Zealand for Maui, Britz and Mighty can be combined to qualify if the vehicle collection date/s are within a 3-month period. For all rentals to qualify each booking needs to be made at the same time. If a customer makes another booking at a later time, the new booking can be combined to qualify if the vehicle collection date/s are within a 3-month period however, the original booking/s will only qualify for a discount if the booking/s are not already travelling or travelled.
Longer-term discounts must be requested at the time of booking.
If multiple hires are within the same country and total days exceed 50 days, only the maximum charge applicable to the Liability Reduction Option or the All Inclusive option will apply. If combining a vehicle hire with another Maui vehicle that has a more expensive All Inclusive option or Liability Reduction maximum cost, the more expensive option is applied. In the instance where a Maui hire is being combined with a Britz or Mighty hire and the packages have the All Inclusive supplement, these components cannot be combined to have a maximum charge applied. However, the vehicle rate can have a longer-term discount applied if applicable.
One-way fees are charged for each individual rental, as are any applicable surcharges for hires in Queenstown.
If multiple hires total more than 100 days these rates and terms do not apply. Requests for quotes/bookings of more than 100 days need to be specifically requested by contacting us first.
Vehicle security deposits can be transferred between most multiple rentals. This service is available when the vehicle security deposit amount and currency is the same.
Each rental day corresponds to one calendar day, regardless of what time you collect or return the vehicle.
The flex rate that is available at the time of booking determines the daily rental rate. This price that applies from day one of your rental duration then applies for the entire rental period up to the 7th day. Every rental day from the 8th rental day on are counted as a new booking and the flex rate that applies for the 8th day will be used from then on. The flex rate that applies for the 15th rental day will be used from then, etc. As soon as you have booked, that rate is fixed, i.e. the price you pay per day will not change, even if the flex rates change at a later date.
To find out which flex rate is currently valid for the vehicle you are interested in, just click for a price calculation for your desired rental period. The base flex rate is calculated by the rental company on the basis of supply and demand and is adjusted once a week every Sunday.
For bookings of 5 vehicles or more or for long-term hires of 100 days or more we will need to place special request with Britz as there are other prices and conditions that apply in such cases. This also applies for multiple hires that add up to 100 days or more.
Note: If you decide to extend your rental duration before you actually collect your vehicle the same flex rate is used to calculate the additional rental days that applied on the day when you made your original booking as long as the original booking has not already since been changed. For all other changes to your booking this will be calculated by using either the original flex rate or the flex rate that applies at the time of the booking change, depending on which rate is higher.
The following situations are classified as booking alterations:
- Change of date for vehicle pick-up or drop-off
- Change of location (depot) for vehicle pick-up or drop-off

These seats are compulsory in New Zealand for children up to 7 years of age or 36kg in weight. You can rent them with Britz for NZ$ 36 per rental. Please provide us with the age(s) and weight(s) of your children when you make your booking so that we can reserve the appropriate seat for you as these need to be booked in advance. Children between 0 and 4 years and up to 18kg must use a child seat, between 4 and 7 years (15kg-36kg) must use a booster seat.
Important: Families with children in need of a child or booster seat cannot book the vehicle type Venturer as no seat can be fitted.
The local taxes on all prepaid items are included in the price you pay us. The only exception is the Road User Charge Recovery Fee, which is payable locally.
This fee is as follows (per 100 km driven):
- Hitop, Voyager, Venturer, Venturer Plus, Discovery: NZ$ 7.64
- Explorer, Vista, Frontier: NZ$ 8.04
For any amounts, which are payable in NZ$ at the depot, the following sales taxes are charged on top: 15% GST.
We have sought to provide this information as accurately as possible. However, we cannot accept responsibility for any changes, such as new fees charged by the rental company at pick-up or sudden local tax increases that may be made by the New Zealand government.
Standard insurance is included in the rental rates. The third-party element of this insurance comes with a maximum cover amount of NZ$ 20 million and covers bodily damage inflicted upon a third party. There is no insurance cover for injury caused to the renter or passengers of the rental vehicle and Britz does not provide an insurance option for this.
The renter is liable for an excess of up to NZ$ 7,500 per incident for damage in the event of an accident. This applies to any material damage to third-party property or the rental vehicle, regardless of who causes the accident. This liability remains in place no matter what until a third party admits liability and makes a payment to cover costs incurred.
With the standard insurance any damage to the motorhome or any third party property during the hire will need to be paid during the vehicle drop-off process at the end of the hire - if you did not book the All Inclusive Option in advance or the Liability Reduction locally. Costs incurred will be calculated and recovered at drop-off which requires sufficient time to enable a damage inspection.
To see a list of the types of damage where there is no insurance cover, please refer to the section 'Insurance Exclusions'.
In New Zealand it is not compulsory for the locals to have third-party insurance. In the event of an accident or if someone flees the scene the renter is liable for any damage caused within the limit of the excess. You can reduce the level of the excess or waive it as follows:
The All Inclusive Option can be booked with us in advance (see 'Inclusions' above - only available in advance, not at the depot). This option includes the 'Liability Reduction Option' insurance supplement including single vehicle roll over cover.
Alternatively, you have the option of purchasing the following insurance option locally, as outlined below.

With the standard insurance, the deposit (which covers the level of the excess) can be provided by credit card only (Visa, Mastercard and American Express are accepted). Pre-paid credit cards, cash or travellers cheques are not accepted.
The owner of the credit card must be present and sign when providing the deposit and he/she is liable for any damages to the rental vehicle and to the property of third party. This deposit can only be provided by the renter as named in the booking and it cannot be spread over 2 or more credit cards.
NOTE: Please ensure that you have sufficient funds on your credit card before departure.
All credit card payments are made in New Zealand Dollars.
With any transactions made using a credit card including providing your deposit with your credit card, additional and non-refundable administration charges will apply on top of the standard payment amounts as follows:
Visa, Mastercard: 3.1%
American Express: 4.6%
If the vehicle is returned undamaged and in good condition, credit card surcharges applicable to vehicle security deposits are refunded when the vehicle security deposit is refunded. This only applies if the card used is a Visa or MasterCard.
Neither the rental company nor the tour operator is liable for any cost differences that occur between the cost of the deducted deposit and the reimbursement resulting from foreign exchange fluctuations or external fees.
For standard insurance (i.e. without the additional liability reduction):
The deposit (NZ$ 5,000 or 7,500 depending on vehicle type) is deducted from the credit card when you collect your vehicle and is returned to you when you return the vehicle if the vehicle is returned without any damage or third party incidents having taken place. Any fluctuations in foreign exchange rates or fees are borne by the renter.
With Liability Reduction Cover Option or if you book the All Inclusive Option through Motorhome Bookers, an authorisation of the credit card is all that is required at pick-up time. The customer authorises Britz to charge any fees such as cleaning fees, speeding or parking fines, rental extensions etc.
The deposit will be reimbursed in full as long as the vehicle is returned in the same condition in which it was collected, with full petrol/diesel and LPG gas tanks (unless you have purchased the Express Return Option at pick-up). The rental company reserves the right to charge a cleaning fee of NZ$ 250 if the interior of the vehicle is excessively dirty at drop-off. This fee can also be charged for smoking related cleaning. The toilet and waste water tank must be completely empty, otherwise a further fee in the amount of the Express Return option will be charged.
Vehicle security deposits can be transferred between most rentals. This service is available when the vehicle security deposit amount and currency is the same.
The excess is always banked in the first instance, regardless of who is at fault and what is owed to the rental company by the renter. It applies per incident and, if a further accident occurs, a separate deposit is then payable to the same total. The excess is refunded to the renter if a third party admits liability and makes a payment to cover the corresponding costs. However, this can take some time.
If you choose to take out Liability Reduction Cover Option locally, the excess amount is limited as outlined above for the following incidents:
Accidental damage to the vehicle (excluding damage caused by the vehicle rolling over) and to the property of third parties, windscreen or tyre damage, towing or recovery costs following an accident, damage resulting from theft, a burglary or fire. Any revenue the rental company loses as a result of the vehicle being repaired following such events is also deducted from the excess.
All insurance cover is null and void if the terms of the Britz New Zealand rental agreement are breached. Any damage that is caused when the renter acts outside of the rental company conditions is not covered by any insurance.
Any damage caused by the vehicle rolling over where the renter is at fault, is not covered by the insurance, unless the All Inclusive Option has been booked in advance. A vehicle rollover is deemed to have occurred where damage to the vehicle results from the vehicle rolling or tipping to such a degree that any or all tyres lose normal contact with the road surface.
The insurance does not cover damage in the case of (salt-)water related damage, vehicle submersion, the vehicle being stranded in a water area, driving through causeways or beach driving.
Unless you have purchased Liability Reduction Option or All Inclusive Option, any damage to the underbody, roof or roof appendages is not covered.
Any personal property that is damaged or stolen during an accident, vandalism or a theft is not insured. Private insurance should be purchased in your home country to cover any such issues. In order to avoid theft of personal items from the vehicle it is advised not to leave any valuables in the vehicle.
In the cases listed below, the renter is fully liable for damage to the rental vehicle and third-party property, i.e. no insurance cover whatsoever is provided:
- any water related damage including vehicle submersion, contact with salt water, creek or river crossing, driving to flooded areas and beach driving
- damage from creek or river crossings, driving through causeways or beach driving
- activities that are in breach of the rental agreement conditions, e.g. driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol or dangerous driving
- any damage to the vehicle and third party´s vehicle or property where the customer has been careless, negligent or wilful in failing to abide by the local road rules
- damage caused by the use of the wrong or unclean fuel or by the use of bio-diesel
- damage caused when water, oil or other liquids are not topped up to minimum required levels (causing overheating, frost damage, etc.)
- damage caused if warning signals in the vehicle are ignored
- damage caused to the vehicle because total load has exceeded recommended load as stated in vehicle manual
- damage caused by the vehicle rolling over (exept where the All Inclusive Option has been purchased)
- damage caused to the vehicle due to the incorrect use by snow chains
- damage caused if accessories have been fitted to the vehicle incorrectly
- costs that arise for towing and recovery of vehicles that have been stranded or submerged as a result of the driver's negligence.
- repairs and towing costs that are incurred because of driving on restricted roads or in forbidden areas
- costs for vehicle keys that have either been lost, stolen or locked in the vehicle
- people driving the vehicle who have not been registered in the rental agreement
- personal property that is damaged in an accident or lost, except where such damage or loss is caused by Britz's own negligence or breach of the Britz rental agreement terms and conditions
- if any member of the rental party deliberately damages any part of the vehicle
- damage to the roof, roof appendages (including aerials) or the underbody (unless you have purchased the Liability Reduction Option at pick-up or the All Inclusive Option in advance)
Whilst we appreciate accidents may occur, there are also clearly cases of driver negligence where any insurance coverage is void. This includes incidents where the driver is found to be in breach of the law in terms of speed, alcohol, drugs, or is found by the police or investigating authority to have been driving in a dangerous or negligent manner. In all such instances, Britz reserves the right to pursue full recovery from the renter.
All credit card payments are made in New Zealand Dollars.
With any transactions made using a credit card - for example for hire extensions or the purchase of any optional extras locally - additional and non-refundable administration charges will apply on top of the standard payment amounts as follows:
Visa, Mastercard: 3.1%
American Express: 4.6%
If you provide a deposit via credit card an administration fee will also apply in line with the amounts mentioned above - on top of the deposit amount. Please be aware that these are refunded with the deposit amount if you use Visa or Mastercard but are not refunded if you use American Express. If the deposit is kept by the rental company, these fees will not be refunded either, regardless of which credit card you use.
Neither the rental company nor the tour operator is liable to pay any cost differences that occur between the cost of the deducted deposit and the reimbursement resulting from foreign exchange fluctuations or external fees.
Where speeding tickets, parking or freedom camping fines and/or accidents (e.g. that have not been mentioned to the rental company) come to light the rental company reserves the right to invoice the customer for these costs in arrears as well as a processing fee of NZ$ 60 or charge their credit card.
The vehicle is equipped with a Telematic System for monitoring the travel speed. If you receive 3 or more notifications for travelling at excessive speed you agree, that Mighty may impose a NZ$ 300 fee to your credit card.
The insurance options offered by the rental company do not include luggage insurance, nor do they include cover for any injuries to the driver or passengers. It is therefore recommended to obtain travel insurance that covers accidents, sickness and loss of luggage prior to departure.
A valid national driving licence is accepted for use in New Zealand as long as the details are also provided in English. If the licence does not also provide information in English an international driving licence is then required together with the original. The driver must have possessed a full and valid driving licence for at least a year at pick-up time.
It is legally required in New Zealand - in the case of a random police check- that every renter who possesses a national driving licence in any other language other than English is also able to present either an international driving licence or an officially authorised English translation of their licence. This must be presented along with the national licence and one is not valid without the other.
The minimum age for registered drivers is 21 years.
Additional drivers can be registered at pick-up time for NZ$ 2 per day and up to a limit of NZ$ 30 per hire. Anyone wishing to drive the motorhome must have their details entered in the rental agreement.
Before you can collect your vehicle you are required to present a valid driving licence, credit card (compulsory), your passport as well as the Motorhome Bookers voucher at the depot.
Please note carefully the maximum number of passengers allowed per vehicle as per the details provided when you click on the picture of your vehicle and view the vehicle specifications on our website.

All Britz vehicles are up to 5 years old. All vehicles are Certified Self Contained. The rental company will make every effort to ensure that the booked vehicle model is provided. However, it reserves the right, due to unforeseen circumstances, to provide either a vehicle of the same or a higher value without upgrade costs if the model booked is not available for any reason. Any additional costs, such as higher petrol costs or ferry crossings costs, etc will not be reimbursed. This does not enable the renter to cancel his/her booking and there is no ground for compensation. Even though all vehicle models within a category have similar equipment and designs small differences in design may exist. All measurements and size indications are approximate values and are based on the information provided to us by the rental company. We cannot accept responsibility for any mistakes or human error in the provision of these details. This kind of information on our website can be changed at any time without prior notice.
The rental company reserves the right to charge a fee of NZ$ 250 if the interior of any returned vehicle is very dirty (including smoking related cleaning). Toilets and waste water tanks (if the vehicle is equipped with these) must be completely emptied, otherwise a further fee in the amount of the Express Return option will be charged. The petrol/diesel and LPG gas tanks must be returned full (unless the Express Return Option has been purchased at pick-up).
Despite regular quality control checks problems can still arise with the vehicles from time to time.
In the event of an accident, breakdown, technical difficulties (including problems with tyres) you are required to inform the rental company immediately and within a maximum time-frame of 24 hours on the toll-free service line provided (not guaranteed to work or to be free if called from overseas mobile phones).
Apart from contacting the rental company (within 24 hours), you are also required to contact the police if you have any kind of accident. Third-party claims should not be agreed to. The police report needs to include names and contact details of any people involved as well as witness details and vehicle registration details of the vehicles involved.
Note: If you do not inform Britz immediately about the need for a repair or other problem you encounter and if Britz is not given the opportunity to help you find a solution no compensation will be provided. If the renter seeks compensation for any vehicle problems after the vehicle has been returned without having informed the rental company during the rental period no compensation can be given.
A nationwide network of contracted mechanics are available in these cases. Small repairs and costs for the upkeep of the vehicle up to the value of NZ$ 200 can be carried out without prior communication with the rental company and will be refunded to you at vehicle drop-off time. For repairs that will cost more than NZ$ 200 you are required to inform the rental company before repairs take place in order to obtain their approval to proceed. All repairs can only be reimbursed upon presentation of a receipt.
Pets or other animals are not permitted inside the rental vehicles, with the exception of registered guide dogs for visually impaired passengers.
If you are planning to take the ferry between the North and South Island (in either direction) in the months between October and March you should make a reservation.
The ferry crossing takes approx. 3 hours and is a fantastic experience. You can change your reservation locally if there is space available on the day in question. This change is free of charge if made at least 1 day in advance of your originally booked crossing.
We can make the reservation for you at no extra charge. You then pay the rental company for this at the depot when you collect the vehicle. You will receive the ticket then too. You can also book it directly on the internet on the Interislander website.
All information provided has been put together by us (Motorhome Bookers Ltd) in as much detail as possible and on the basis of the information made available to us. This information has been taken from the rental company's conditions which they have provided to us. Any additional conditions are included in the rental agreement which is entered into by yourself and the rental company. You will receive the complete list of rental conditions with your rental agreement, which you sign when you pick up your vehicle. We cannot accept responsibility for any differences that come to light between our list of conditions and those of the rental company.

The only exception is the Road User Charge Recovery Fee, which is payable locally (per 100 km driven):
- Hitop, Voyager, Venturer, Venturer Plus, Discovery: NZ$ 7.64
- Explorer, Frontier: NZ$ 8.04

Visa, Mastercard: 2%
American Express: 5.2%
Visa, Mastercard: 2%
American Express: 5.2%

A NZ$ 100 surcharge will apply to all rentals dropping off on following National public holidays and is payable locally:
2021: 02 Apr, 05 Apr, 25 Apr, 07 Jun, 25 Oct, 26 Dec
2022: 01 Jan, 02 Jan, 06 Feb
NOTE: If your flight is due to depart New Zealand in the morning we strongly recommend that you book your motorhome such that you drop it off the day before you depart and spend the last night in a hotel (or other form of accommodation).
If the vehicle is returned earlier than agreed, no refunds are provided. If it is returned later than the agreed drop-off date, the lost time will be charged at the standard rental rates which the rental company charges (these are higher than Motorhome Bookers' rates). Extensions to the rental period after the pick-up date can only be made with the prior approval of the rental company at the standard seasonal rate. This payment must be received immediately by credit card.
If the rental period is extended without prior approval a fee of NZ$ 150 will be applied and all addional rental days charged at the standard daily rate.
It is not possible to change the depot where you drop off your vehicle without prior approval from Britz. Otherwise, fees of up to NZ$ 700 will be charged.
If the vehicle is returned damaged or unclean, if the toilet or waste water tanks are not emptied or the petrol, diesel or LP Gas tank is not full (unless the Express Return Option has been purchased at pick-up), the rental company will impose the listed fees and additional charges. The cleaning fee is NZ$ 250 and an additional fee in the amount of the Express Return option is charged on top of this if the toilet or waste water tanks are not returned empty.
